UttarKashi

Oft called Kashi of the north, Uttarkashi is a town of spititual and religious importance, and is located in the Northernmost part of Uttarakhand, India. The district headquarter of Uttarkashi district, this bustling riverside town lies at an altitude of 1352 m above sea level. Most well known for its innumerous Ashrams and temples, this town acts as a springboard to many a mountaineering expeditions, as it is the last major town en route to the greater Himalayas: It is no wonder that the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering- India's premier mountaineering institution is located here. The Varunavrat mountain looms tall over this picturesque town, and confluence of two rivers Varuna Ganga and the and Asi Ganga are a short distance upriver from this town.
The Manikarnika Ghat and has a temple dedicated to Shiva (Kashi Vishwanath Temple)in the center of the town., and places worth visiting around this sacred town are as follows-
